Half-timbered house on an urban island
Balaguer
2008-2011
Awarded in “Formes de l’habitar. Terres de Lleida 2008-2013”
An intermediate plot where its street face faces a ship, the train track and a narrow road.
A quiet, sunny, sparse island interior.
A generous façade plan, perhaps too much to preserve the domestic staircase.
On the street, stepping the façade - both in its plan and in its section - and breaking it down into two, has made it possible to obtain more pleasant proportions, to distance oneself from the building in front of it and to prevail over the oblique view. The impact of staggering is untidy, given the variety of heights in neighboring buildings. In this part, the house recedes, it is contained. Here, it houses the bedrooms
In the interior of the island, opening up - with terraces, patios and porches - has made it possible to live like in a house and not like in a flat, to consider enjoyment as a project premise. In this part, the house expands, invades the outside and also surrounds it. Here, it houses the living and sharing areas.
Introducing a courtyard as an exterior lobby and another in the central part of the building has made it possible to cross visuals and consider the surprise in the perception as a project value.
